Your role

D.E. Shaw India is seeking resourceful candidates for their Financial Operations (FinOps) group in Hyderabad/Gurgaon. The Pricing Team, part of DESCO’s finance and operations department, handles the valuation of private investments and oversees non-private investments conducted by Arcesium LLC, a firm affiliate. This role also requires close collaboration with various front-office teams.

What you’ll do day-to-day

In this role, you will be expected to value the private equity and credit investments which entails understanding of investments, industry research and analysis of the portfolio company’s fundamentals, and performing in-depth competitor analysis. You will be responsible for periodically building, updating, and maintaining the valuation models that incorporate the terms of the investment while adhering to the accounting/audit guidelines, preparing detailed documentation of the valuation methodology, and periodically monitoring deal inputs and assumptions for their relevance. In addition, you will facilitate valuation reviews by third parties (like CITCO and Kroll) and auditors (like EY); creating a summary highlighting significant changes/events and industry analyses, to be presented to the valuations committees for their review. You will also be involved in developing and reviewing controls to oversee the pricing of various Equity/Fixed Income and derivatives (OTC and Exchange Traded) products.

About you

Who they’re looking for

• Candidate should have a master’s degree in finance or equivalent, with 0-1 year of business valuation experience in Private Equity/debt or investment banking space.
• The candidate should understand various Equity/Fixed Income and derivatives (OTC and Exchange Traded) products.
• The ideal candidate should have exceptional valuation, research, and financial modeling skills including excellent analytical and quantitative skills as well as the ability to perform in-depth, innovative, critical analysis.
• Candidate should be able to develop a sound knowledge of the economic/characteristics, conditions, and trends of a broad range of geographies, industries, and their investment characteristics.
• The candidate should have excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills (both oral and written), with a proven ability to articulate sophisticated ideas, issues, and recommendations effectively.
