Materials and Processes Engineering Department from GE Energy Engineering division, India is seeking a Material Characterization Engineer for conducting material analysis on gas turbine components. The engineer will also have a responsibility to analyze any prematurely failed samples and generate reports.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct material analysis on materials used in gas turbines (steels and nickel-base alloys)
- Develop and follow processes to understand material behaviour by characterizing different phases, not limited to, gamma prime, carbides, different precipitates
- Understand and generate reports on failures by analyzing the fracture surface of failed components
- Maintain the quality plan for the lab according to ISO 17025
- Work with global counterparts in the US in strategic materials selection for gas turbine components
- Work with the technical leader and manager in the technical growth of the team
- Providing timely communications on significant issues or developments to the project leads
- Help and provide the necessary support to a team member in resolving technical issues/problems during Projects/test execution.
- Work effectively within cross-functional engineering and global Research teams
- Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with MPE policies and procedures.
Qualifications/Requirements
- M.S/M.Tech in materials science and relevant engineering with emphasis on material characterization and analysis
- 1 - 3 years of technical experience in a relevant field
- Experience with setting up and using material characterization tools and equipment’s such as an optical microscope, digital microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope, XRD
- Experience in sample preparation for material analysis such as cutting, mounting, polishing
- Experience with using hardness and micro-hardness testers
- Excellent knowledge of physical metallurgy and mechanical behaviour of steels and ni-based alloys
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Knowledge of ISO 17025 standard
- Knowledge/certification on OSHA guidelines and EHS regulations
Desired Characteristics
- PhD in materials science with specialization related to the characterization of steels and nickel base alloys
- Excellent Experience in setting up and maintenance of material characterization equipment’s
- Experience in materials modelling based on physics of mechanical behaviour and mechanical testing data
