About Indian Space Research Organisation

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the space agency of India. The organization is involved in science, engineering, and technology to harvest the benefits of outer space for India and mankind. ISRO is a major constituent of the Department of Space (DOS), Government of India. The department executes the Indian Space Program primarily through various Centres or units within ISRO.

Your role

Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, ISRO is looking forward to engaging bright candidates with the scientific aptitude to work as Research Fellows in multi-disciplinary fields and project activities related to Natural Resources, Environment, Ocean, Atmosphere, Studies related to Planetary Sciences and Microelectronics/VLSI.

  • Name of the post: Junior Research Fellow

JRFs have to work on land, ocean, and atmosphere applications of remote sensing for monitoring, modeling, and management of natural resources. In addition, research opportunities can be given in planetary sciences and web-based services.

Training, development & rotations

Junior Research Fellows will be engaged initially for ONE YEAR and is extendable for further periods based on an assessment of their work and the requirement of the project. The maximum period of engagement of a Junior Research Fellow shall not exceed FIVE years.

The selected JRFs are encouraged to register for Ph.D. from recognized Universities and take up relevant research topics benefitting the individual and SAC. However, they have to work extra time to complete the Ph.D. research for which any leave will not be granted separately.

Salary & benefits

The monthly emoluments for JRFs (Source: ISRO):

  • For 1st& 2nd year INR 31000/- Per month + HRA
  • For the subsequent years INR 35000/- Per month + HRA

In addition to the above-mentioned fellowship amount,

  • Candidates would be awarded one of the above grades of Research Associateship amount depending on their merit as assessed by the Selection Committee.
  • HRA at the prescribed rates in force at the place of posting will be paid and Medical benefits for self only will be allowed as per extant rules.
  • The fellowship amount shall be taken as Basic pay for this purpose.
  • Leave and other benefits will be granted as per extant DOS/GOI rules.
  • Apart from this, the candidates selected will not be entitled to any benefits or concessions admissible to regular employees.

About you

To apply for this role you must have the following eligibility criteria:

Junior Research Fellow: 

M.Tech with First class with a minimum of 60% marks (aggregate of all semesters) or CGPA grading of 6.5 on a 10 Point scale or M.Sc. with First class with a minimum of 65% marks (aggregate of all semesters) or CGPA grading of 6.84 on a 10 Point scale.

  • M.Sc. or M.Tech in Geophysics or Applied Geophysics or Geology or Applied Geology.

Essential Qualification :

  • M.Sc. in Physics or Mathematics

Post Code 3

Essential Qualification :

  • M.Sc. in Marine Biology or Marine Geophysics

Post Code 4

  • M.Sc. or M.Tech. in Geoinformatics or Remote Sensing
  • The candidate should have Bachelor’s degree/Graduation in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Technology / Computer Application.

Applicants should also have qualified one of the following:

  • CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test, including NET-Lectureship.
  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by MHRD.
  • National-level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their Agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, etc.
  • Candidates should have good academic records and education throughout in Science or Engineering Stream.

Age: Maximum Age limit is 28 years for Junior Research Fellows.

  • Candidates need to apply online mode only.
  • Upon online registration, applicants will be provided with an online Registration Number, which should be carefully preserved for future reference.
  • After registration, take a printout of the application summary. This printout is to be brought along with a passport-size photograph and documents supporting the data furnished in the online application at the time of the Personal Interview. 
  • Out-station candidates called for interview will be paid to and fro second class railway fare by the shortest route on production of proof of journey, such as the railway ticket number or bus tickets, etc. The candidates will also have to produce documentary proof in original, of the details furnished in their application at the time of attending the interview.

Selection Process:

  • Shortlisting of candidates will be done based on academic records or written tests (if required).
  • The shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. Communication shall be sent only to the shortlisted candidates.
  • The selection will be based on the performance in the personal interviews only.
  • In case the candidate is claiming equivalent specialization, he/she has to obtain a certificate from his/her Institute/University stating that the specialization is equivalent to the one asked in the advertisement for the post applied for. SAC reserves the right to the final decision.
  • The call letters for the interview to the short-listed candidates will be sent only by e-mail.
  • No communication shall be made to the candidates who are not short-listed.
