About the team:

The Signals, Algorithms, and Systems Research team in the Emerging Systems Lab/Telecom Systems Research (ESL/TSR), within Intel Labs India, is an innovative research team that works closely with Intel product groups, industry partners, and the academic community to drive technology advancements and business impact. The key research focus of the team is Edge Computing-enabled time-sensitive perception-planning-control systems such as in Networked Robotics. The research includes enabling robots to seamlessly offload their AI-ML-based perception-planning computing functions to an Edge Server with time-sensitivity and determinism over wireless networks (Wi-Fi and 5G). This includes end-to-end design and co-optimization of Edge-centric robotic automation systems from simulations to real-world implementation.

Job description:

  • The internship project focuses on Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning applied to the Edge-computing driven / Networked Robotics domain, robotics algorithm development, end-to-end (E2E) Edge Robotics System simulations and Robotics HW/SW Systems Research, PoC prototype development, and characterization.
  • The intern will work with the robotics research team to investigate, apply, and develop state-of-art AI/ML/Optimization-based technology components/algorithms for vision-based robot perception, multi-robot control and coordination, multi-agent pathfinding, collective perception using infrastructure cameras for autonomous mobile robot AMR navigation (ROS2 navigation stack) and demonstrate these components via integration in a WiFi / 5G based Edge-robotics System.
  • Apart from developing individual technology components, the intern should be able to integrate, combine, and co-optimize different technology ingredients into an E2E integrated system - e.g. infrastructure perception-based navigation, multi-robot path planning, dynamic obstacle avoidance, robot function virtualization with edge computing system.

About you

Qualifications

  • Student pursuing Integrated Master/Ph.D. in Engineering Design, CS, ECE, EE, ME, or related fields.

Skills:

  • Experience in (ML/DL, AI frameworks) + SW (Python, C++) + Robotics (robotic perception, simulations in Gazebo/MuJoCo, ROS2 middleware, AMR navigation SW stack, etc.), and optimization algorithms.
  • Knowledge of AI-based and marker-based object pose estimation, vision perception, AMR localization, mapping, path planning, and obstacle avoidance algorithms is desirable.
  • Experience in Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Hands-on experience with ML toolkits such as Pytorch, etc.
  • Strong programming expertise in Python and experience in using Deep learning packages such as Pytorch.
  • Experience with ROS2 middleware, ROS2-DDS communication, ROS2 (Nav2) navigation stack, Moveit stack for robot arm control, Gazebo/MuJoCo simulations, Realsense SDK, OpenVino AI/ML SDK, containerization and deployment using Docker containers are desirable.
