Your role

Plug Power Inc. is actively seeking a highly motivated Intern. The Intern will be responsible for assisting the Electrical & Instrumentation in a wide variety of initiatives and projects in support of the department’s projects. In this role, you will gain exposure to a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment which includes developing a detailed understanding of Plug Power’s products. The role will focus on the successful completion of technical projects, process improvement, documentation, and presentation of results at the end of the program.

Project summary:

  • Understanding of PFDs & PIDs.
  • Instrument Selection for Hydrogen Service
  • Impact of region-wise codes and standards on Instrumentation
  • Control system selection & deciding on system architecture for the Gigawatt plant
  • Instrument calculations (Level calculations, control valve CV & wake frequency calculation report)     

Understanding of PFDs (Process flow diagram) & PIDs (Process and Instrumentation diagram)

  • Understating of Instrumentation requirements for various products and Instrumentation representation on PFDs & P&IDs.
  • Acquiring knowledge of different types of symbols used in P&IDs.
  • Identifying and acquiring knowledge of type types of instrumentation for various products and their representation on P&IDs.

Instrument selection for hydrogen service

  • Understating different types of instruments and their purpose in the process.
  • Acquiring knowledge of the selection of instruments based on service, pressure, and temperature.
  • Acquiring knowledge of, the purpose of selecting particular instruments for various products.

Impact of region codes and standards on instrumentation

  • Identifying and acquiring knowledge of Instrumentation codes and standards requirements for the EU, US, Canada, Australia, and India.
  • Identifying the differences between various codes based on region.
  • Checking the possibility of standardizing instrumentation selection by considering codes and standards for various regions.

Control system selection & deciding system architecture for the gigawatt plant

  • Identifying and acquiring knowledge of functional descriptions for various products.
  • Identifying and acquiring knowledge of system architecture and design for Gigawatt plants.
  • Identifying and acquiring knowledge of control system selection for Gigawatt plants.

Instrument calculations (Level calculations & wake frequency calculation report)

  • Identifying and acquiring knowledge of the calculation sheet of Level calculations, control valve CV & wake frequency calculation.
  • Checking the possibility of developing Matlab calculation sheets.

Core duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of all Plug Power products.  
  • Work with senior-level engineers and management to interpret and analyze data
  • Assist in developing engineering processes with guidance from senior-level engineers and management.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to sufficiently make minor repairs as necessary.
  • Ability to independently set up experiments and monitor progress
  • Understand engineering concepts and how to appropriately apply them in day-to-day projects
  • Ability to critically analyze data in terms of system performance and reliability.
  • Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and all interactions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

About you

To apply for this position, you must have the following:

Education and qualification:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Instrumentation engineering.
  • Prior Internship or Co-op experience preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Background/experience with statistical analysis.
  • Possess a solid hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to the position including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent follow-through.
  • Must be driven and self-motivated.
  • Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality.
