Your role

Plug Power Inc. is actively seeking a highly motivated Intern. The Intern will be responsible for assisting the Mechanical Department in a wide variety of initiatives and projects in support of the department’s projects. In this role, you will gain exposure to a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment which includes developing a detailed understanding of Plug Power’s products. The role will focus on the successful completion of technical projects, process improvement, documentation, and presentation of results at the end of the program.

Project summary:

• Understanding of PFDs & PIDs.
• Basics of Static & Rotating Equipment.
• Study of Pressure Vessel Design & Mechanical Design Calculations for Pressure Vessels.

Understanding of PFDs & PIDs

Understanding the system and requirements related to various static and rotating equipment. Understanding its usage and purpose in design.

• Acquiring knowledge of different types of diagrams and drawings used in the project such as process flow diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrument Diagrams (PIDs), and Equipment GA detailed drawings.
• Identifying and acquiring knowledge of the type of valve its function, selection criteria, and material of construction of valves, different parts of the valves

Basics of Static & Rotating Equipment

• Understanding the thin and thick pressure vessels, the basics of thin pressure vessels.
• Acquire knowledge of different types of heat exchangers.
• Understand the types of rotating equipment and packages involved in hydrogen generation packages.

Study of Pressure Vessel Design & Mechanical Design Calculations for Pressure Vessels

• Mechanical Design considerations and requirements for pressure vessels.
• Basic understanding of various codes & standards used for Mechanical design of pressure vessels.
   

Core duties and responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of all Plug Power products.  
• Work with senior-level engineers and management to interpret and analyze data
• Assist in developing engineering processes with guidance from senior-level engineers and management.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to sufficiently make minor repairs as necessary.
• Ability to independently set up experiments and monitor progress
• Understand engineering concepts and how to appropriately apply them in day-to-day projects
• Ability to critically analyze data in terms of system performance and reliability.
• Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and all interactions.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

About you

Education and qualification:     

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical & mechanical.
• Prior Internship or Co-op experience preferred.
• Must have reliable transportation to the office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Background/experience with statistical analysis.
• Possess a solid hands-on approach to problem-solving.
• Computer and software systems skills as applicable to the position including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.
• Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.

• Must be driven and self-motivated.
