Job Description

The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

Challenging and versatile role within the VMware PSO Revenue team working with global teams in an inclusive and diverse environment.

This Analyst position will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to experience working in a dynamic team, understand the requirements for Revenue Recognition for a publicly quoted company, and experience working in a large multinational company. Specific responsibilities will primarily include the documentation review of all PSO credit redemptions, supporting the month-end and quarter-end close process, and other ad hoc projects.

Helping our customers succeed in their digital transformation is a core value at VMware. As part of the PSO Revenue team, you will be surrounded by an organization that believes in VMware’s EPIC2 Values (Execution, Passion, Integrity, Customers, and Community). You will be challenged to think outside the box and grow through close collaboration with the global PSO revenue teams in VMware as well as other Finance teams, Operations, and Sales.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

The primary need is to ensure correct revenue recognition for PSO offerings, specifically PSO credit redemptions. Reviewing and understanding documentation for professional services statements of work (“SOW”) and general revenue documents and contracts to ensure they are set up in compliance with the revenue standard (Revenue Standard ASC606).

You will be responsible for preparing reviews and reconciliations to support the month-end and quarter-end close process.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Understand and analyze all agreements being transitioned to VMware within the following key goals:

  • Within 30 days in the role, become competent with VMware’s revenue systems, revenue rules, guidelines, and standard operations from a review of the VMware revenue policy, training materials, and recordings.
  • You will need to have a good understanding of all period/quarter-end activities related to these professional services.
  • Fully understand how the PSO subsystems operate, what information is impactful for revenue and how this integrates into VMW’s revenue systems.
  • Support the process of reviewing SSP for custom consulting engagements to support the business in managing exceptions.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing regularly?

Your regular activities may be modified to suit your professional strengths, but you can expect a variety of the following assignments:

  • Documentation review for PSO credit redemptions, including working with operations teams to resolve any issues arising promptly.
  • Period end and close activities, primarily focused on PSO credit redemptions.
  • Review credit and customer appeasements requests, i.e., void approvals and RMAs where the original order includes PSO credits.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual internal/external audit requests.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements and automating manual processes, while continuously challenging the status quo.  Some key areas currently being reviewed relate to automating some manual tasks within PSO credit redemption close, creating efficiencies through a significant change to the SSP testing process.
  • Investigate system and process improvements that can optimize our close process including utilizing Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technology.
  • Maintaining and updating, where required, any process documentation related to the tasks performed.
  • Supporting testing of system setup changes and for any integration projects of acquired entities.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

You will be joining the PSO Revenue team. The team is constantly growing as the activities grow through merger activities etc. We are currently a team of 10 comprised of Revenue Analysts, Senior Revenue Analysts, Team Leads, and Managers. The team is spread globally with team members in Bangalore, Cork, and various locations in the US.

The team culture is one based on building trust, ongoing development through coaching, and giving back to the community through service-learning.
