This engineering role is part of the joint project between “Modern Application and Management Business Group” and “Cloud Infrastructure Business Group”, where we are building the industry-first Multi-Cloud application migration and management product. This product will help customers in their Multi-Cloud journey for Application migration and optimization. You get to work with a very talented team of peers on networking and security domain, distributed systems, ML/AI, REST API, and enterprise workflow/security integrations that will demonstrate open-source innovations.

We are transforming management and operations for the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC). We are instrumental in removing the barriers to SDDC adoption by providing converged openness, and contextual analytics across virtual and physical to provide relevant insights and analytics for better collaboration. This platform helps IT organizations plan, operate, visualize, analyze, and fix their complex software-defined data center environments. We have won a lot of industry awards including Gartner cool vendor and best for VMworld. Our team is building a large-scale distributed real-time operations and analytics platform for next-generation data centers with enterprise-grade reliability. We are involved in every aspect of the product development process, from early feature concept design, product development to testing and validation at customer sites. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

The following is a schedule for the first year of joining:

  • Within 15 days of employment, become competent with VMware’s rules, guidelines, and standard operating procedures. Go through the new hire orientation and training.
  • Within 1 month of employment, get hands-on with the product and its use-cases.
  • Within 3-6 months of employment, learn the product area assigned to you in detail, the technology stack in use, become familiar with the project and features in the assigned domain, and get accustomed to the code base, release cycles, etc. Work towards becoming competent in coding and functional dev testing of the product's features.
  • Within 1 year of employment, work towards becoming competent in handling engineering design, coding, reviews, functional automation of dev-test of the products feature.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

As a development engineer, you will:

  • Work on product features engineering design, coding, review, testing, and automating the functional dev-test.
  • Research, design and implement industry best practices regarding large-scale UI application development and support.
  • Work across backend and frontend teams, infrastructure, and domain teams.
  • Work closely with a team of passionate people with a startup mindset and who want to change the status quo.
  • Debug and handle complex technical design discussions across various stakeholders.
  • Have a customer focus to ensure high-quality solutions are delivered which meet the expectations of our customers and be able to work with other customer-facing teams to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Operate with a service ownership mindset to work in a DevOps model where the dev team is responsible for all automation, quality, CI/CD, logging, and monitoring of services that are being built
  • You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and direction may change rapidly as customer requirements and market direction change.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent design and programming skills primarily with a focus on enterprise server solutions using JavaScript.
  • Familiarity in cloud technologies is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Web Development technologies including JavaScript, HTML, CSS. React framework a plus.
  • Full working knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, and commercial product development practices in a complex larger enterprise/cloud solution.
  • Working knowledge of basic technologies such as networking.
  • Use of Open-Source packages for common capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Hard-working with a "whatever it takes" attitude.
  • Able to demonstrate effective teamwork both within the immediate team and across teams.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to lead a team of highly technical individuals.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiar with Agile/SCRUM development methodologies
  • You are passionate about TDD and unit testing.
  • You have a collaborative approach and are self-motivated.
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks (React) development and tooling

The team is built on trust and empathy, and we celebrate each other’s successes. vRNI is headed by Shiv Agarwal, who is the Vice President and GM of the group based out of the U.S. The leadership of vRNI reporting to Shiv is based out of India and U.S. As part of this role, you will be joining the India team, which is headed by Faizan Raza in Bangalore and Gaurav Sharma in Pune India. The leadership encourages independent thinking and gives a free hand to innovate.

The team is distributed across the globe, in India and U.S. We have a diverse, inclusive, and open culture in the team. The team consists of engineers, architects, UX designers, and product managers, with experience ranging from less than a year to more than 20 years.

Where is the role located?

Either of the following can opt.

  • Office-location: Bangalore or Pune in India.
  • Flexible: The location of this role is flexible within Bangalore or Pune India. Work will be done from an office some days during a week and other days from a non-VMware building.
  • Remote: The location of this role is from anywhere in India. Work will be done from a remote location most of the time, however, must work from an office location for some time based on the requirement.
