IIM Udaipur, a second-generation IIM, is one of the fastest-growing management schools in the country. It was set up by the Indian Government in 2011. Taking the legacy of older IIMs forward, IIMU aspires to set new benchmarks in the field of management education by combining excellence in both teaching and research. At IIM Udaipur, we are committed to becoming a globally recognized management school by 2030 and we are inevitably on our way.
With an accomplished faculty, a flourishing research ecosystem and success in attracting the best minds in the country, IIMU is able to champion our core values of excellence and integrity. At IIMU, we challenge our students to expand their knowledge and their intellectual horizons so they emerge transformed and prepared to have an impact on the world of business and society at large.
Additionally, the Institute strives to make a real difference in the region, forging strong relationships with local NGOs and government and working closely with industry on live projects, internships, guest lectures, faculty research and many events throughout the academic year.
Udaipur, the capital of the former princely state of Mewar, evokes the same sense of heritage, beauty and grandeur as such timeless destinations as Venice and Prague. This cradle of culture and history is the perfect backdrop for IIM Udaipur.
If ever there was a place that lent itself as an environment for the kind of management education IIMU aspires to deliver it is Udaipur and Rajasthan. With this heritage, culture and location IIM Udaipur is truly where history meets the future.
A strong sense of social responsibility informs all of IIM Udaipur's activities. We are committed to giving back to society, playing a role in local development and being in the vanguard of applying principles of ecological sustainability.
In the curriculum, this is reflected in the two years MBA's mandatory Rural Immersion. We believe it is essential for future managers to understand rural India. Rural Immersion starts with a course on the Indian Social and Political Environment and continues with the class divided into five-person teams which spend a week in a village where they work closely with NGOs to appreciate on-the-ground realities and challenges faced by those at the bottom of the pyramid. In their other courses, students undertake forty to fifty projects per year with companies/NGOs in the region as part of class assignments.
Students also make a strong contribution to social responsibility outside of class in their extra-curricular activities. Consult U, the consulting club, undertakes approximately six pro bono projects per year with regional non-profits including:
Over the course of each year, approximately 50% of the students will take part in Prayatna, the social responsibility club that promotes active volunteering. Recent projects include:
In order to encourage and support students who are considering careers in the social sector, IIMU provides various incentives:
As an Institute that is creating future leaders, IIMU wants to provide a practical example to students of how to apply the principles of ecological sustainability. Within a span of eight years, IIMU's new campus will be self-sufficient in terms of energy, i.e. a net-zero campus. Waste will be treated on-site and converted into reusable resources. The campus will use both technologically advanced as well as traditional models of water harvesting. Read more.
IIM Udaipur is also a proud partner in the first CSR ranking project. Professor Neeti Sanan, a faculty member at IIMU, has collaborated with Namrata Rana and Utkarsh Majmudar to create the report which ranks India's top companies on the basis of their engagement with CSR. The intention is to update this research periodically to track the impact of the Companies Act 2013 in the coming years.
